Cushman & Wakefield, the world’s largest privately-owned real estate services firm, has advised renowned mustard manufacturer Maille, a Unilever subsidiary, on its first standalone store outside France.
Opening its doors today at 2 Piccadilly Arcade – owned by Great Portland Estates – in London’s West End, La Maison Maille will offer the capital’s food-lovers an opportunity to taste more than 60 brand new varieties of mustards, vinegars and gherkins in a 2,000 sq ft boutique setting.
Maille currently has two other stores in France: one in Paris – where the firm has been based since 1747 – and the other in Dijon. The brand has future plans for additional boutiques in London as well as in other key cities across the world including New York, Montreal, San Francisco and Tokyo.
The store will also feature the brand’s exclusive ‘mustard pump’ which dispenses fresh mustard – a unique experience only available in its boutiques. This must-try delicacy is served using an authentic French porcelain mustard pump and is the same method used by Maille’s founder to serve European royal courts centuries ago.
Matt Hyland, partner in Cushman & Wakefield’s London Retail team, said: “Maille’s rich heritage and range of quality products epitomise French culinary refinement. I’m sure La Maison Maille will be a popular addition to London’s expanding menu of premium French food brands. Perfectly positioned to take advantage of the high levels of Piccadilly footfall and the improving tenant mix in this part of London, the store is also located near other specialist food retailers such as Ladurée, La Maison du Chocolat, Caviar House and Fortnum & Mason.”
